How far in advance should I book my course with Nautilus? The further in advance the better as boat and captain availability fill up well in advance.
Fly into Palma de Mallorca, airport code PMI, and catch a taxi to the downtown marina. We will board the boat, get settled and head out for an amazing Spanish dinner!
Do a chart briefing, systems overview and check all the equipment on the boat. Set sail for the the most beautiful white sand beach on the entire island, Es Trenc. Anchor, swim and enjoy the turquoise water. After some fun, do your first formal lessons aboard.
After a detailed look at engine operation and maintenance, head out and learn how to sail! You II learn points of sail, sail theory, and then head out to practice. Sail up the coast to Cala D'Or, a beautiful bay filled with lots of yachts, and an abundance of fine dinning restaurants overlooking the water. Get your first taste of med mooring!
After a brief morning lesson, motor down the coast to Mondrago, a beautiful marine park. Practice anchoring techniques and then go for a swim or explore the caves along the rocky bay. After lunch, pop the sails and chart a course for Cabrera island. Anchor under the shadow of the old fortress and enjoy this stunning anchorage.
Hike up to the top of the fortress and enjoy the breathtaking views over the island. After summiting, head down to the small cantina on the island for a cold beer and some tapas. You II spend the rest of the day here in Cabrera wrapping up lessons, testing and just enjoying the anchorage.
Chart a course and set sail for Porto Vells, just over 30 nautical miles away. This will be a fun passage! By this point you will be in charge of all the charting, navigation, sail trim and be the captains for this leg. Upon arrival drop the anchor in the lovely little cove at Porto Vells, explore the beach, or go for a paddle board session.
We weigh anchor early and sail to Isletas, a beautiful little anchorage. Take your final tests and celebrate passing! After lunch it s the final sail back to the marina for docking practice. Friday night we will go out to celebrate all the new captains, then spend that final night on the boat.
We are off the boat by 8am and you are free to fly home, or take a couple of extra days to explore the rest of the beautiful island of Mallorca!
“The course far exceeded my expectations. From the onset, Margaret was incredibly responsive and helpful. Even with all of the COVID related scheduling issues, the team handled the challenges in a fair and accommodating way.
When we finally got on the water, our captain TJ did a phenomenal job. Knowledgeable. Highly skilled. Patient. Calm. Strong interpersonal skills. Passionate about sailing. Committed to teaching. Affirming. We could not have asked for a better instructor.
The week passed with a natural, relaxed flow resulting in all the learning objectives being meet with our skills advancing simultaneously. And the Nautilus “learn by doing” format is priceless! It was seamless, fun, and rewarding! For those looking to learn the skills and obtain the certifications, I cannot recommend this experience more highly.”
